Colossians 1:9-14

Acts 2:1-21 – Lord pour out your Spirit

Why? We are in the last days

– The Spirit of the Lord will be poured out through prayer

– We need prayer that hits the bullseye every time…………PRAYING THE WORD OF GOD hits the bullseye every time….

v9 – Since the day we heard…the community can hear things (good and bad)…

vs4b, 8 – heard about your love

v4 – heard about your faith

v6 – heard about the grace of God

Do not cease – this speaks of constant prayer, regular prayer, persistent prayer
— KEEP THE PRESSURE ON —

and to ask or desire – means something given to you

– When we ask the Lord gives – James 1:17

Paul asks and prays that the Lord would give the Colossians some things:

(1) Paul Prayed that the Colossians would Be filled with the knowledge of God’s will – Coil 1:9

Filled – means to be crammed full

-Col 1:19,25…2:2, 9-10…4:12,17

-Lord, cram people full of your will……….

How?

* Through the Word of God – 1 Thess 5:16-22
* Through His voice
* Through personal experience

Wisdom and understanding – This is assessing and analyzing; having insight to come up with the right solution

*** We can differentiate between true and false doctrine

(2) Paul prayed that the Colossians would please God – v10

– It means to fully please God

– This is the only place this phrase is found in the NT

It speaks of pleasing the Lord in every way

How can we please the Lord?

– With sacrificial praise – Hebrews 13:15-16

(3) Paul prayed that the Colossians would be fruitful and increasing in the knowledge of God – v10

– Knowledge – is a full knowledge

– Have a hunger for all of the Word of God

(4) Paul prays that the Colossians would be strengthened – v11

Strengthened – means to receive power

Power – this is manifested power – something you can feel, sense, see and know

– This enables us to build our Christian character

Endurance – it means to be waiting an hopeful
– It is the ability to handle things until they work out

– Waiting is doing something

Long Suffering
– Means to have a long fuse; to suffer long

– This is patience with people. It enables us to bear with people no matter how mean they are

Joy – means to be glad and cheerful
– This has nothing to do with you situation or circumstance

Thankfulness – means to express gratitude

– The church was full of thanks – Col 1:3; 1:12; 2:7;3:15-17

– We are to be grateful in all things and at all times – 1 Thess 5:16-22
