“HONOR” 1 Peter 2:17

Honor – means to attach high importance to/to give value or worth to someone or something/to give maximum appreciation/to regard favorably/to highly respect

-this is a Biblical principle to follow

(1) HONOR CARRIES WITH IT A FULL REWARD – 2 JOHN 8

LOOK TO YOURSELVES – examine yourself……..watch out for yourself

-look inward and not at others

-do what is right

 do what is right regardless of who does wrong

 do what is right even when wronged

WE CAN LOSE THOSE THINGS WE WORKED FOR

-through disobeying the Word of God

-by rejecting wise counsel

-through not honoring authorities

**We can lose the blessings of the Lord……

**We can receive a FULL REWARD – Heb 11:6

-there is no reward, a partial reward or a full reward………

(2) HONOR CAN BE DISPLAYED IN ACTION, WORD AND THOUGHT

1. Luke 20:20 – they dishonored Jesus with their actions

2. Luke 11:14-16 – they dishonored Jesus with their words

3. Mark 2:6-12 – they dishonored Jesus with their thoughts

(3)  A LACK OF HONOR CAN RESTRAIN THW WORKS OF THE LORD – Mark 6:1-6 (v5)

v5 – Jesus could not do any mighty works because they dishonored Him

-they grew too familiar with Jesus and His ministry

-they only received a partial reward…

            WHO DO WE HONOR?

(1) 1 Peter 2:17  ——- HONOR ALL PEOPLE

-We honor all people by knowing all people were created by the Lord

-John 1:12 – only born again believers are children of God

(2) 1 Peter 2:17 – HONOR THE KING

-we honor the position and the authority in the position and not in the person…

-Daniel 3 – the 3 men in the fiery furnace totally respected the king even though they disagreed with him   (v30).  They were eventually promoted by the king……….

(3) Ephesians 6:1-4 – honor your parents

-this is a biblical principle for everyone to follow because we all have parents

-we remember their position as parents and do not honor any wrong behavior or abuse

-it is an unconditional principle to follow

-it is the 5th commandment of the 10 commandments and the only commandment with a promise…..

           1. That It May Be Well With You – provision and blessings

           2. You Will Live Long On Earth – live more years on earth

(4) 1 Timothy 5:17 – HONOR YOUR PASTOR

-pastors receive double honor

-do not become a CK – Clergy Killer

-how do we give double honor to a pastor?

***Double Respect – in what you say and stop others from saying

***Double Prayer – then enemy is after the pastor more than anyone else

***Double Praise – for what the pastor has done and have been blessed with
