Haggai Chapter 1

1. It is time to obey the voice of the Lord – v12
2. It is time to experience the presence of the Lord – v12-13
3. It is time to get stirred up – v14
(1) IT IS TIME TO OBEY THE VOICE OF THE LORD – v12
-the Lord speaks continually
-Psalm 46:10 – seek some silence…have some quiet time
-carve out some time for stillness – watch out for interruptions
-be involved in the art of listening…
(1) THE VOICE OF THE LORD BRINGS PEACE  – Phil 4:4-7
-peace is a sign that what you are hearing is from the Lord
-it brings rest, calm, quiet and contentment
1 Cor 14:33…John 14:27…Colossians 3:15
-you are hearing from the Lord when you don’t hear from the Lord – when you do not hear from the Lord, you are doing what you are supposed to be doing…
***One reason we have peace is that the voice of God is a Revealing voice – Jeremiah 33:3
     *He knows everything and tells us things we do not know – so be at peace in Him
     *Trust in the Lord and Rest in the Lord…
(2) THE VOICE OF THE LORD IS A PERSISTENT VOICE – Psalm 62:11 & Jeremiah 33:1
-the voice of the Lord keeps talking and talking and talking
-we can say yes or no to the voice of the Lord
Haggai 2:1 – it was now about a month since the rebuilding of the temple started
Example: 1 Samuel 3:1-11
***The Lord’s voice is persistent so you can know His will and what is best for you…
Let the voice of the Lord lead you – Romans 8:14
-we are not to be led by anything other than the Holy Spirit…..
(3) THE LORD’S VOICE IS A LIMITLESS VOICE – Psalm 29:3-4
-it is a voice that says He can do anything and we can do anything in Him
(2) IT IS TIME TO EXPERIENCE THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD – vs12-13
Exodus 33:12-15 – we need the Lord and His presence
-the only thing that will move the people is the presence of the Lord
-the Lord is with you
*******The blessings and presence of the Lord increases as we obey Him – Ps 51:1-4, 10-11 and Joshua 1:7-9
-as Israel obeyed the Lord, His presence grew and grew and grew
-as Israel disobeyed the Lord, the presence of the Lord lifted off of the nation
(3) IT IS TIME TO GET STIRRED UP – v14
the leaders and people got stirred up – it takes both to make things happen
stirred up – v14 – means to be awakened/to be shaken out of slumber
How are people stirred up?
1. Obedience
-we obey the Lord, see the results and then it stirs us up to follow Jesus even more
2. Crying out to the Lord
-Exodus 2:23-25 – everyone was stirred up as the people cried out to the Lord
3. Make a decision – 2 Timothy 1:6
stir – means to resuscitate…bring life to something
-this is continual
-stay stirred up by making a decision to do so and spending time with Jesus…
