First Peter 4:1-6

v1 – the Lord’s mind must be our mind

-Our thoughts, attitiude and thinking must be exactly like the Lords
-this happens by knowing the Word of God
WE MUST THINK THE SAME WAY THE LORD THINKS ABOUT SIN – v1-6
        (1) WE MUST BECOME LIKE JESUS WHO IS OUR EXAMPLE – V1
a. Jesus never sinned one time – Heb 4:15
-Jesus overcame sin in many ways and through the power of the Holy Spirit
-all believers can overcome sin
-we must change our mindset where we believe we can overcome sin
REMEMBER:
*******THE POWER OF SIN IS NOT GREATER THAN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN US
-1 John 4:4
*******THE SINS OF THE WORLD ARE NOT MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE – 1 Corinthians 10:13
-You do not have to give in to sin because it is too much for you to handle
*******THE POWER OF SIN IS BROKEN AT SALVATION –
-the sin nature produces sins
-when the sin nature is broken – we receive a divine nature and the Holy Spirit
-we are set free from sin and sin doe snot dominate us any longer
-stay free by staying filled with the Holy Spirit
1 Peter 4:2 – we no longer have to live in bondage for the rest of our lives
1 Peter 4:3 – This speaks of our past lives before we were saved
-the will of the gentiles – is the ways and values and behavior of the world system
6 sins are mentioned that are sins of the unbeliever and are all related to worshipping false gods:
Lasciviousness and lusts – no restraint in behavior…all kinds of sexual immorality
Drunkenness – habitual drinking — it means to be soaked with wine
Revelings and carousings – drinking parties. ..getting buzzed…being with girls
social drinking
Idolatry – these sins were associated with false gods and idols because these sins would never be associated with believers
1 Peter 4:4 – we do not do these things any longer because we are saved
-the unbeliever thinks it is strange that we have stopped , but it is not strange for people to get drunk…
-You cannot run with them any longer – cannot keep close fellowship with them any longer
-we still love the unbeliever though
v5 – the world will speak evil of us, but the Lord will take care of them
-Judge the living and the dead – this who have died before the return of the lord  and those alive at the second coming of Jesus
v6 – so let;s preach (evangelize)
who are dead – they were alive when they were preached to, but now they have died
