Acts 2 – Peter preached a message
v37 – pierced – means to stab…sting…hurt and sense pain
***There is a reaction to the preaching of Peter – v38…
1. Repent – means to change your mind
2. Be water baptized – an outward sign of an inward work
3. Remissions of sins – our sins are forgiven when we are saved
4. The baptism of the Holy Spirit –
-this Biblical experience is received after a person is saved
v39 – Promise – means a pledge and commitment
-Luke 24:49
v40 – perverse – means bent…crooked…ungodly…evil…out of shape
v41 – reception
-many gladly receive the Lord
vs42-47 – the pattern of the early church for the church now is mentioned
***2 Things about the Pattern church
1. THE PATTERN CHURCH IS A BIBLICAL CHURCH – Colossians 1:13-18 & Matthew 16:18
-all churches need to be like Jesus wants them to be. Acts is the pattern to follow
2. THE PATTERN CHURCH IS NOT A PERFECT CHURCH –
-everyone in the church is imperfect
– the imperfections of people does not change the pattern of the church
vs42-26 – refer to the characteristics of the pattern of the early church. Let’s emphasize 2 of them:
1. THE ACTIVITY AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – Acts 2:38-39
-the move of the Holy Spirit is needed badly in our churches today
2 Points About The Holy Spirit
1. The Holy Spirit is not additional help
-our own strategies will not work. We need Holy Spirit strategies
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS COME TO STAY
-there was one Pentecost, but the Holy Spirit is here for us all of the time
2. CONTINUE IN THE APOSTLES DOCTRINE OR THE WORD OF GOD – v42
-the Word of God is vital for todays church
a. the Word of God cannot be cancelled – Isaiah 55:11
-nothing can stop the Word of God from moving
b. The Word of God was taught completely
-we need all of the Word of God
-no political correctness can be allowed any longer in any church
c. The Word of God was taught continually – VS42,46
-We need the Word of God taught all of the time
-We ned the Word and the Holy Spirit
