CHAPTER 2

verse 1 – The Day of Pentecost

-takes place 50 days after Passover

-Pentecost means 50

-The day of Pentecost refers to the coming of the Holy Spirit

-it was a day to celebrate the harvest – John 4:35

-the church started on this day which was a Sunday

ALL TOGETHER – we need to have unity in the community

-one mind, heart and vision

verse 2 – Suddenly – this is the Lord doing something immediately

-not all things happen immediately

vs2-4 – this is the first church service.  Characteristics include:

-a noise like a wind – the manifest presence of the Lord

-the fire of the Holy Spirit

-God enthusiasm

-an evangelistic spirit

-people touched and changed

-speaking in tongues

***THis is the pattern the church should follow today………

***Never allow the fire to smolder – go out, burn dimly…….

verse 2 – it filled the entire house – everyone received the baptism of the Holy Spirit

verse 4 – the Spirit gave them utterance –

***the baptism of the Holy Spirit is from the Lord

***the spirit man is overwhelmed with more of the Holy Spirit

v5 – these are Jewish families living outside of the area

v6 – people heard the noise of the wind

vs7-10 – 15 language groups are present

-tongues can be a real or heavenly language – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

v11 – tongues always glorify the Lord

vs11-13 – Receptivity and Resistance

***THE POWERS OF DARKNESS FIGHT ANY SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE YOU DESIRE TO RECEIVE

v14 – Peter takes a stand – steps forward

*Peter begins to preach……

*the baptism of the Holy Spirit changes people

v15 – 9am – people normally do not get drunk at 9am

v16 – Joel 2:28-32

Pour – means to abundantly overflow – v17

-a gusher

vs17-21 – WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS POURED OUT

v17 The gifts of the Holy Spirit will operate

PROPHECY – means to speak an inspired message

There will be dreams and visions

deams – when you are asleep

visions – when you are awake

vs19-20 – SIGNS AND WONDERS WILL OCCUR

-I will give – the Lord gives the signs –

wonders – miraculous appearances in the sky – Matthew 24:29-30

signs – blood, fire and vapor of smoke – refers to wars and the smoke of cities burning…….and people being killed

v20 – great and awesome – because Jesus has returned & we are with Him

v21 – Whoever – this is anyone and anybody – Jesus can save anyone
