Acts 6:1-7
Acts 6:1 – the disciples were increasing in number
-the Great Commission – Matthew 28:18-20

-the word Christian has become watered down in our culture

-disciples found 269 times in the NT…Christian 3 times in the NT

***Disciple – means learner…student…apprentice…a follower & disciplined one

(1.) DISCIPLES ARE TRUTH BASED – 2 Timothy 3:16 & John 8:31-32

a. there is truth — Jesus is Truth – John 14:6
— The Bible is Truth – 2 Timothy 3:16
—we are not to be opinion based

b. Our Enemy is Relativism
-whatever someone feels, senses or thinks is truth, that is truth to them
-Judges 16:7 – we need some strong spiritual leadership today in Christianity

2 Timothy 4:3-4 – people are turning away from the truth

***We must find the Bible – 2 Chronicles 34 and King Josiah

2 Chronicles 34
vs1-2 – Josiah becomes King at 8 years old…he follows the Lord

vs3-7 – Josiah begins to clean out the entire nation and the temple – all false idols, altars and gods are removed and burnt. All of the sinful people are removed also

vs14-19 – the temple is being cleaned out and restored – they find the Torah – the Word of God. It was buried underneath all of this stuff……….

vs19-21 – King Josiah hears the Word of God and it changes him

vs29-33 – King Josiah makes a covenant to practice the Word himself and all of Israel needs to do so also

***Once we find the Bible:
1. WE MUST DEVELOP INTO BEREANS – Acts 17:11
-hunger for the Word of God
-read the Word

-the winds of false doctrine will attempt to blow us away from the truth – Eph 4:11-18

2. WE MUST BELIEVE THE BIBLE – John 16:13
-it works…it is all for Today…it is relevant for everyone

3. WE MUST APPLY THE BIBLE – John 2:1-5 (v5)
-Practice the Word
-this means we have to adjust to the Word of God

(2.) DISCIPLES HAVE PROBLEMS – Acts 6:1

complaint – a problem arose in the early church – some widows were being neglected
a. this was an unexpected problem

b. there are self induced problems

c. Every problem is an opportunity to see the grace and power of God operate – 2 Corinthians 12:1-10
