Achan’s Tent Spiritual Warfare

1. 1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples and they were written for our admonition

a. The Old Testament points to The New Testament

b. Many OT lives like Joshua’s were prophetic speaking, When the Messiah comes this is what it will be like

c. God’s Directive to Joshua TAKE THE LAND Joshua 1:1-9 Be bold be strong for the Lord thy God is with you do not be afraid do not be dismayed for the Lord thy God is with thee

d. Joshua is a type of Christ in the bible. Joshua lead Israel into the promised land in like manner Jesus leads us into heaven

e. Chapter 3:6 Then Joshua spoke to the priests saying, Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people. So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people

f. The Presence of the Lord went before them and they crossed on dry land

g. After they crossed they conquered Jericho, Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho
2. Defeat! Ai was about 12,000 people including women and children

f. Joshua 7:3 And they returned to Joshua and said to him, Do not have all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and attack Ai.

g. Joshua 7:4-5 So about 3,000 men went up there from the people. And they fled before the men of Ai, (5) and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six of their men

h. Ai is a type of the enemy there is a devil and there are demonic beings

i. Ai exploited the disobedience of Israel

j. The enemy does not always create problems in our lives he jumps in the middle of the problem we create and make it ten times worse

k. Unchecked the enemy can form a strong hold in our lives

l. What should have been a resounding victory was instead a humiliating defeat costing the lives of 36 Israelites.

m. Though this number was small from a military standpoint, it stunned Israel. All that self-confidence was rocked as they became fearful realizing that defeats were possible in the conquest of the Promised Land.
3. 7:10 Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face? This is not my problem it is your problem. I have been faithful you have not.

n. The problem: (SIN IN THE CAMP) 7:1 But the Children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed things for Achan the son of Carmi the son of Zabdi the son of the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah took accursed things so the anger of the Lord burned against the Children of Israel

o. 7:12 Neither will I be with you any more unless you destroy the accursed from among you

p. The result they went to battle alone on their own. Don’t go it alone! The punishment was His presence lifted

q. Achan’s sin not only affected himself it affected those around him 36 men died
4. Declare War!

a. 2 Corinthians 10:4 The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds

b. Spiritual warfare is not a sence

c. Your everyday obedience to the Lord determines your effectiveness in the battle

r. Close the door to the enemy through righteous living

s. Ephesians 6:1 ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all of the fiery darts of the wicked one

t. The Battle Field for the Christ Follower is the mind

u. Pick Up the Shield of Faith
