Abraham (2016) Worship
1. Introduction
– Abram’s name was changed to Abraham
– Sarai’s name was changed to Sarah she was Abraham’s wife
– Lot was Abraham’s nephew
– Abraham had two sons Isaac and Ishmael
– Abraham was 75 years old when God called him 12:4
– The Covenant with Abraham represents a new beginning in the redemptive process after the flood of Noah
– The redemptive process of God Almighty collided with sinful man
– Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were so also will the coming of the son of man be
6:11 The earth also was CORRUPT before God and the earth was filled with VIOLENCE
2. The big picture “Divide and Conquer”
– Genesis 11:1-9 now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. Then the Lord said, “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their – language, that they may not understand one another’s speech”. So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city
– Man was untied in his sin nature
– God DIVIDED the people at the tower of Babel by force
– God used Abraham to CONQUER all nations by being God’s channel of blessing and love through Jesus. Through Abraham and the nation of Israel – – Messiah Jesus was born
3. His calling: Genesis 12:1-2 now the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing”
– Abraham worshiped the moon
– God Chose Abraham
– John 15:16 You have not chosen me but I have chosen you
– He received unmerited favor
– He was called to repentance
– Being called means = a radical transfer of Loyalty to Jesus = Abraham was to leave country family Jesus is our #1 priority
– Hebrews 11:8 by faith Abraham when he was called obeyed
4. The Promise Genesis 12:2-3
– I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you I will make your name great and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you
– At this time Abraham had no children
– I will bless you = receive salvation
– I WILL MAKE YOUR NAME GREAT
– A contrast with Chapter 11:4 And they said, “Come let us build for ourselves a city and a tower whose top will reach into heaven and LET US MAKE A NAME FOR OURSELVES
– character like God’s
– I will bless those who bless you and the one who curses you I will curse
– Refers to Abraham personally and the nation of Israel
– As Christ followers we are to stand with Israel
– Israel is God’s prophetic time clock!
5. Worship
– Abraham was a man of worship he was marked by
– The tent = a stranger and a pilgrim in this world yet a citizen of Heaven
– The altar = a worshipper of the true and living God
– 12:5-7 Shechem means shoulder to carry burdens leave your burdens at the altar
– 12:8, 13:3-4 Bethel means house of God at the House of God Abraham dedicated himself to the Lord and also repented
– 13:17-18 Hebron means alliance separate from the world or old ways
– 22:2 Moriah mountain where God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son
– Worship is a lifestyle of dying to self and glorifying Jesus on a daily basis
– Sometimes we must lay our Issac at the altar
– Isaac was a type of Christ and a prophetic picture of the Blood Sacrifice of Jesus
