The Name of Jesus

 

Luke 1:26-31

 

-the name of Jesus must be kept in our churches and society

-be careful of always using the word God

 

 

3 Points

     (1) using the name God is the politically correct way to bring religion into a discussion

-every religion on earth uses the name God

 

-Christianity is the only right way and worships the one true and living God

 

-1John 2:21-23

 

 

     (2) using the name God supposedly means you are a person of faith

-we are not people of faith – we are blood bought born again believer

 

 

     (3) using the name God makes people think you are a Christian

-saying you love God and God loves you does not mean you are saved

-we must include Jesus 

 

 

 

 

(1) THERE IS POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS – 

 

                      A. Power to Save – Acts 4:12

 

-the name Jesus means Jehovah saves

 

-the name of Jesus is all about redemption

 

-Luke 19:1-10

 

-the church exists to get people saved/believers remain on earth to bring redemption 

 

 

 

 

(2) THE NAME JESUS DECLARES THAT HE IS GOD – Matthew 16:13-18

 

Christ – this speaks of His deity

 

a. Colossians 1:15-19

b. John 20:24-31

-Son of God – refers to the deity of Jesus Christ

-Son of Man – refers to the humanity of Jesus Christ

 

c. Since Jesus Christ is God, do not take His name in vain – Exodus 20:7

 

 

     (1) everyone is to follow this commandment

 

     (2) this principle is to be followed forever

 

     (3) we are not to misuse the name of Jesus/use it in an insincere way

 

How can we misuse His name?

 

 

(1) we can misuse the name of Jesus by using His name in swearing, cussing and profanity

 

 

(2) we can misuse the name of Jesus by using it in an irreverent way

 

(3) we can misuse the name of Jesus when we do not live for the Lord

-it is saying we are believers, but living the opposite of what we profess

 

***WE will not be held guiltless concerning this principle

-the believers will be disciplined

-the unbelievers wil be punished and judged

 

 

 

 

 

(3) THE NAME OF JESUS IS ABOVE ALL NAMES – Philippians 2:5-11

 

-above everything and everyone-

-higher than anyone or anything else-

 

-every knee will bow and every tongue wil confess that jesu sChrist is Lord
