Titus – Part VII
Titus
2:11-15
Titus is teaching – the grace of God – vs11-12
Titus is looking – for the the return of Jesus Christ – vs13-14
Titus is speaking – the Word of God – v15
(1) TITUS IS TEACHING – THE GRACE OF GOD – vs11-12
grace – means a gift and favor freely given without any expectation of any payback
– it is the kindness and goodness of God that is given to us for free
a.) this grace is from the only One true and living God
God – means the Mighty One…the one Supreme Being
-we can only receive this grace from the One true and living God
-it is God reaching down to humanity
-the source of grace is God
b. this grace appeared – became visible
-this is the Incarnation – means God came to earth in the form of man Jesus Christ
***appeared for everyone – for all of humanity
c. grace brings salvation – Ephesians 2:8-9
-you do not have to give up anything to be saved
-follow Him and allow HIm to remove issues and sins from your life
d. the grace of God not openly saves us, but transforms us in our character and conduct
-the grace of God never gives us the permission to sin. It gives us the power to not sin and also receive forgiveness from God when we do miss the mark
1. the grace of God gives the believer the power to DENY – reject, disavow, refuse – anything that goes against God and His Word
2. the grace of God gives the believer the power to live:
soberly – is self control
righteously – doing what is right all of the time
godly – you do not have to sin
(2) TITUS IS LOOKING FOR THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST – vs13-14
looking – means to be ready
-we are ready by getting saved and staying close to jesus
-Who is coming?
*Jesus Christ our Savior and God
a. to redeem humanity from sin
redeem – means to set free with the payment of a ransom (the blood of Jesus)
————————–from sin-all wickedness
b. to give spiritual blessings to all believers
-for free/undeserved
c. to place enthusiasm (zeal) in us
-zeal – means to be on fire for the Lord and to have spiritual enthusiasm
***Believers are looking for the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ – for the appearing of His glory which is the light and presence of the Lord
*when He returns – Matt 24:29-30 & Rev 19:11-16
*when He rules the earth – Rev 24:24
*when in heaven – Rev 21:23 & 22:5
How do we know Jesus Christ is returning?
Matt 24:32-33 – keep your eyes on Israel
Matt 24:31 – the Jewish people return to Israel
Matt 24:9 – the nations of the world hate Israel
Matt 24:14 – the Jewish people are being witnessed to
Matt 24:13 – all of Israel will be saved
(3) TITUS IS SPEAKING OF THE WORD OF GOD – v15
Speak and teach these things which is the Word of God…
-you have the authority of God to do so
-do no tallow anyone to depreciate or deflate you for what you are saying
What should be involved in our speaking:
1. Exhort people – means to encourage and comfort
-encourage people that Jesu solves them, He is there for them and wants them to know Him and His plan for their lives
2. Conviction – the word rebuke means to convince and convict/to show people their faults
-no one can be saved without conviction
-no one will change without conviction
-you can never live a righteous life without conviction
-it is speaking the Word and the Holy Spirit convicting the hearts of people…..
