Sermon Notes 8/5 – Revelation Chapter 10

REVELATION Chapter 10

The Lord calls a timeout – for evangelism to take place

Two visions take place during this pause

1. The angel with the little book – Rev 10:1-11

2. The two witnesses – Rev 11:1-14

THE ANGEL WITH THE LITTLE BOOK

V1 – most Bible scholars believe the strong angel is Jesus

cloud – speaks of the glory of God

rainbow – speaks of the promises of God

face as the sun – peace, comfort & warmth

feet like fire – judgment

lion – courageous and strong

Verse 2 – little book is the Bible

-Right and left feet – Jesus is in control of everything, and the Bible is for the entire world

Verse 3 – a warning of coming judgment

Verses 3-4 – at the right time judgment will come – like thunder

Verses 5-6 – the Lord keeps His Word

Verse 7 – mystery – something hidden that has now been revealed

Verses 8-11 –

Verse 8 – take the book – it’s an invitation

Verse 9 – devour it – eat it

Verses 9-10 – The Word will be sweet and bitter

-Sweet – these are verses we like to read and receive

-Bitter – these are scriptures that make us uncomfortable

Verse 11 – John preaches or prophesies the Word of God

THE WORD OF GOD

Revelation 10:8

-Take the Bible – 2 Timothy 2:15

-Be diligent – means to work hard…make a strong effort

Revelation 10:9 – eat and devour the Bible – ALL OF IT

-Swallow it in context

PREACH THE WORD – 2 Timothy 4:2

-Why preach and devour the Word?

(1.) THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY BOOK GOD HAS WRITTEN HIMSELF

– 2 Peter 1:20-21

-66 books – 39OT and 27 NT

-One theme – REDEMPTION

Verse 20 – the first Peter talks about is contextualization

– We can’t come up with our own interpretation of any verse

– Mark 11:24

Verse 21 – no scripture has come from any human being

moved – means to be influenced/to come upon

-the Bible is absolute truth

-read the Bible first

(2.) THE BIBLE PRODUCES MORAL CLARITY & CERTAINTY

– Philippians 1:15-17

Defense – protect the gospel from all opposition

Abortion – Proverbs 6:16-19 / Jeremiah 1:4-5

Working – 2 Thessalonians 2:6-12

Genders – Genesis 1:27

(3.) THE BIBLE IS ACTIVE AND ALIVE

– Hebrews 4:12

Isaiah 55:11 – the Word flows from the Lord
