1 PETER 2:17

HONOR

DEFINITION OF HONOR – means to attach a high importance to/to value/highly respect/to give maximum appreciation to/to value as precious, treasured, and very dear
-The opposite of honor is to dishonor – means to not show respect…to treat as common and ordinary
1.) THE #1 PERSON TO HONOR IS JESUS CHRIST
– it means to not show respect/to treat as common and ordinary/to be easily done away with/to be treated shamefully
Genesis 15:1-21 – Jesus is our reward
-the Bible is our reward – Psalm 19:7-11
2. HONOR CARRIES WITH IT A FULL REWARD – 2 John Verse 8
A full reward is everything the Lord has for us
-2 John Verse 8
Look to yourselves – examine yourself
Watch yourselves – keep an eye on yourself
-Make sure you are practicing the principle of honor
-It is the Lord’s desire for us to receive a full reward – Hebrews 11:6
3. A LACK OF HONOR CAN RESTRAIN THE WORKS OF THE LORD
Mark 6:1-6 (v5)
-The desire of the Lord is always to heal, deliver, and save
-We must honor the Lord
-They only received a partial reward
1 Peter 2:17 – Honor all People
-This is a command and intentional
-We can honor all people because they are all created by the Lord
Love the brotherhood – this refers to all born-again believers
– It is a divine love that always gives, even if it is never responded to, thanked, or acknowledged
Fear the Lord – means to have a great respect & reverence for the lOrd
Honor the king – honor the position and not the person
-This would be our president
4. Honor is displayed in ACTION, WORDS, and THOUGHTS
                    1. Luke 20:19-20 – they dishonored Jesus with their actions – they beat Him and killed Him
                    2. Luke 11:14-15 – they dishonored Jesus with their words
-They accused Jesus of being demon-possessed, mentally ill, and a drunk
                    3. Mark 2:6-11/Luke 11:17 – they dishonored Jesus with their thoughts
-Stand on the principle of honor and stand against all dishonoring…….
