1 PETER 2:9-10
Our Identity
1 Peter Chapter 1 – Redemption is emphasized
1 Peter Chapter 2 – Grow – 1 Peter 2:1-4
-Grow – means to grow further and speaks of forward motion
WE ARE WHO GOD SAYS WE ARE
-The enemy says YOU ARE
-The believers say I AM
Reject the voice of the enemy and declare THE POWER OF I AM
1 Peter 2:7-8 – speaks about unbelievers – are disobedient & reject Jesus Christ
verse 9 – But You – this refers to Christ followers
WHAT WE STRUGGLE WITH IS NOT WHO WE ARE
-Whatever we do may not be good, but we are still good
OUR FEELINGS DO NOT CHANGE OUR IDENTITY
THE ENEMY WILL ATTACK US WHEN WE KNOW OUR IDENTITY
-We are not attacked because we are flawed, but because we are favored
(1.) WE ARE A CHOSEN GENERATION – Verse 9
CHOSEN – means to be called out/be handpicked/select – for a purpose
(2.) WE ARE A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD – Verse 9
Royal – means someone high in authority
Priesthood refers to prayer and access to the Lord in prayer
(3.) WE ARE A HOLY NATION – Verse 9
-It refers to a group of people held together by the same values, which makes them different from any other group
-Our values are found in the Bible and in who Jesus is
(4.) WE ARE A SPECIAL POSSESSION OF GOD – Verse 9
-We are God’s private property, and He owns everything we have
-it means to be created – create something special
We have a responsibility – to share the good news of Jesus Christ
called – means to call out our personal name/an invitation/an immediate permanent exit into Forward motion & movement
-Colossians 1:13-14
-Marvellous – means astonishing/amazing – it’s so wonderful that we have a loss of words
Proclaim – means to celebrate/declare/& praise the Lord – it speaks of advertising
