Sermon Notes 1/25 – 1 Peter 1

 1 PETER 1:1-4

SANCTIFICATION

SANCTIFICATION – MEANS TO SET APART

– It includes salvation and Christlikeness
– Sanctified, holy, saint, and set apart all have the same meanings
How are we sanctified and set apart?

1. BY THE VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

– 1 Peter 1:2/Deuteronomy 5:24/Revelation 2:7,11,17 & 29 & Rev 3:6,13,23
-the voice of the lord is a loud voice – REV 1:10
-CONVICTION – means to convince
-the Lord’s voice leads us to obedience

2. We are set apart by the Word of God

– 1 Peter 1:12
-the Bible was written by God Himself – God breathed
When we read the scriptures, we are inhaling what the Spirit exhaled thousands of years ago
-We must have a sustained intake of the Word of God
-We need the whole Bible.  Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian
-The Bible will keep you from sin, but sin will keep you from the Bible
-1 Thess 4:3-5…Col 3:5-9…Prov 6:16-19

3. We ARE SANCTIFIED AND SET APART BY PEOPLE AND BELIEVERS

– 1 Peter 1:1 and Proverbs 11:14 & 12:15
-The Holy Spirit can use a variety of people to speak into our lives – receive the word of the Lord as long as it lines up with the Word of God
Remember:  When a lot of great, solid people who love you in the Lord and are all saying the same thing – SURRENDER.

4. WE ARE SANCTIFIED AND SET APART BY MULTIPLIED GRACE

– 1 Peter 1:2-24
-Grace is the Lord’s favor and mercy & compassion given to us as a gift, cannot be earned, is free, and cannot be purchased
-We receive an earthly and eternal inheritance
-Earthly is who we are in Christ
-Heavenly is eternal life
Our inheritance is:
-incorruptible and undefiled – cannot be destroyed, stained, or dirty
– does not fade – keeps its original quality and cannot lose its shine
-When we know who we are in Christ and that we are holy and set apart, then we will not want to sin & will live a more victorious life in Jesus…
