Sermon Notes 1/11 – 1 Peter 1
1 Peter 1
Blessed – verse 3 – means to celebrate, to verbally express thanks to the Lord/to speak well of
-This is praising the Lord for what He has done – it is celebrating
“It is a comfort to worship a God we cannot exaggerate.”
Revelation 5:8-14 – We are preparing everyone for heaven
1. God is worthy of our praise all day, every day, and no matter what kind of day it is – 1 Peter 4:12-13
-praise the Lord even on the bad days
TWO PRINCIPLES I HAVE LEARNED:
1. There are two times to praise the Lord – when you feel like it and when you don’t feel like it
2. The Lord never changes, and so my praise should never change
-We can still praise the Lord even when we only have a little strength left…
2. Praise flows from our friendship with God – Philippians 3:10
– I know Him – it means to experience Jesus
Look What The Lord Has Done – We Praise Jesus For What He Has Done
1. WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS POWER – 1 Peter 1:3
-By or through the resurrection means a dominating force and the weight of God’s power
The weight of God’s Power –
-Weight can crush things
-Weight can break things
2. WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS MERCY – 1 Peter 1:3
Mercy – means the kindness & compassion of God for the treatment of someone who is suffering or in need
-Mercy is an action word…a word of intervention to help someone
-Matthew 17:15 & 15:22
3. WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR OUR INHERITANCE – 1 Peter 1:4
-We have an inheritance here and there
-Here is on earth, and this is who we are in Christ
-There is heaven where our inheritance will never rust, wear out, or change
