Sermon Notes 11/16 – Love Forgives

LOVE FORGIVES

                       1 John 3:5,16/4:7-12/5:11-13
-God’s love appeared – the Incarnation
-Humanity needs to be forgiven
-Sin has a voice, but the voice of forgiveness is louder……..

1. ONLY JESUS CHRIST CAN FORGIVE OUR SINS – 1 John 4:10

-propitiation – only Jesus Christ was appointed to be the ultimate sacrifice  for our sins – Matthew 3:13-17
-There are still consequences for our sins even when we are forgiven

2. FORGIVENESS IS RECEIVED AND NOT ACHIEVED – Micah 7:18

-receive the Lord’s forgiveness
-the Lord’s core, essence, and character is to forgive – that’s who He is
            PRACTICAL AND POSITIONAL FORGIVENESS
Practical – – – 1 John 1:9 – when we commit an act of sin and confess it, the Lord forgives us
Positional – since we are in Christ at salvation, we are forgiven positionally
-We do not go by feelings or emotions.  We stand on the Word of God
       REMEMBER 3 POINTS:
1. We can never mess up badly enough to exceed God’s capacity to forgive us
2. No child of God sins to the degree that makes them incapable of receiving God’s forgiveness
3. Forgiveness is a benefit – Psalm 103
vs 1-2 – bless the Lord, oh my soul – used twice
Bless – is kneeling and thanking the Lord for what He has done for us
soul – is connected with some emotions and knowledge
within me – praise reveals on the outside what is happening on the inside of us

THE FIRST BENEFIT – He forgives our iniquity
sins – is a general term for sins and wrongdoing
