Sermon Notes 5/8 – Zechariah
ZECHARIAH 8
Verses 1-2a – LORD OF HOSTS – means Lord is the armies – speaks of angels
-word – means a pledge or a promise
verse 2 – Zealous – means to become intensely red and speaks of deep emotion, passion and fury against the enemies of Israel
-Zion – refers to Jerusalem and the Jewsih people
verse 3 – a promise from the Lord – He will return to earth
-Jesus will dwell personally in Jerusalem
-truth will reign – not lies and deception – John 14:6
***No lies will be tolerated when Jesus rules or in heaven
verse 4-5 – this happens during the millennium kingdom
-people will live to be hundreds of years old – Isaiah 65:19-20
-peace will be on the earth – Isaiah 2:4
verse 6 – The people in Israel are amazed what has happened
-The Lord is not amazed because it is what He does – heals and saves
verse 7-8 – Jesus is going to bring the Jewish people back to Israel
***They will be His people – saved & become like Jesus
verse 9 – hearing or listening – means to listen to and practice the Word
***James 1:22-25
strong hands – means to have a firm hold or grip on something
***Hold on to the Word and something will happen – Galatians 6:9
verse 10 – Speaks about disobedience to the Word of God. There are consequences to our disobedience:
—economic issues
—No peace
verse 11 – A Remnant
-remnant – means a portion
-there is a portion of the church that is on fire for Jesus
-JOIN THE REMNANT
verses 12-13 – THE BLESSINGS THE LORD WILL GIVE TO THE REMNANT
v12 – prosperity/an open heaven/increase & abundance/difficulties will end
-the Lord will cause these blessings to come upon the remnant
v13 – these blessings come so we can bless others
vs14-15 – The Lord is determined
a.) to discipline Israel for their sins
-relent – the Lord will not change His mind
to do good to Israel
-good – means to be kind, worthy and right
-good – speaks of who the Lord is and the benefits He is going to give us
-Declare the goodness of the Lord outloud…
