Sermon Notes 12/21 – The Star Appeared

1. THE STAR APPEARED – Matthew 2:7

-it refers to the fact that the Holy Spirit has always been

-The Holy Spirit is God – Hebrews 9:14

-there is one God – Dt 6:4-5

-there is a trinity – 2 Corinthians 13:14

-The Holy Spirit appears first in Genesis 1:1 – Elohim – plural revealing the trinity

-The Holy Spirit is on the move and created everything

2. THE HOLY SPIRIT POINTS TO JESUS CHRIST – Matthew 2:9

           a. because only Jesus can do anything for us

           b. because only Jesus is the Savior of the world – Luke 2:8-11

Savior – means one who rescues & delivers

Matthew 3:13-17 – The Father announces Jesus is the only Savior

         -Jesus is the Savior of gentiles and Jewish people

         -it is a narrow road – Matthew 7:13-14

          c. because only Jesus  can bring you peace

—Luke 2:81-4

—John 14:27 – MY PEACE – is the Lord’s Peace

—John 16:33 – Peace is only in Jesus Christ

          ***you may have – means to possess and hold on to

          ***peace – means the stoppage of conflict/distractions are removed

          ***tribulation – refers to pressures

          ***overcome – means to completely conquer

-the Lord’s peace conquers all tribulation and pressure

        REMEMBER: We understand that peace is not determined by what we possess, but by who possesses us..

-nothing else satisfies except Jesus…

Proverbs 17:1 – dry morsel – a little piece of old bread sitting around

                       – House full – well furnished/big/ a great house

***It is better to have a little and have peace then to have alot with no peace

*******We need to allow peace to rule – Colosians 3:15 & Galatians 5:22

Definition of peace – means to join yourself together which brings calm, tranquility

—Peace rules by increasing our peace –

         —peace is a fruit

         —as we spend time with Jesus every day, our peace increases.

We can have continual and sustained peace…

          —then Jesus and His Peace lead us
