Sermon Notes 3/23 – The Last Days – Joel 2-3

Joel 2:1, 15 – blow a trumpet

-this speaks of getting everyones attention

-this is a sound of warning and preparation

-this is a sound of assembling together

Joel 2:12-14 – relent – the Lord will pull back His judgment and replace it with blessing

Blessing – THE LORD WILL TAKE CARE OF ALL OF OUR ENEMIES -v20

-then and in the future – The Battle of Armageddon – Rev 16:12-16 & 19:10-21

-it is time for a reversal – as Israel repented, the Lord was going to reverse some things

Blessing – WE WILL BE A TESTIMONY OF THE LORD – Joel 2:19

Hypocrisy – means to play the part of an actor

-Israel was a bad witness of the Lord’s goodness

-reproach – speaks of being dishonorable/not acceptable or credible

-we say – 1 John 1:5-8 – saying something does not make it true

Blessing – An outpouring of the Holy Spirit – Joel 2:28-32

1. the outpouring of the Spirit will happen – vs28-30 – I WILL

-the outpouring is going on all across the world

2. The outpouring is many outpourings – everywhere and with anyone who desires it – vs28-29a – women and men/young and old

-there are many characteristics of a Spirit outpouring

3. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is Biblical – 1 Cor 14:18,39

4. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is full blast – a gusher and not a drip

-it is not an intellectual experience – James 2:19

IN THOSE DAYS – v29 – these are the days right before the return of the Lord

-the last days point to Jesus and nothing else

v30 – wonders – in the sky & on the earth

wonder – these are events that are surprising/astonishing/amazing

v31 – darkness will cover the earth – Matt 24:29

v32 – people will be saved and Israel will be saved

-some will escape the wrath of God and be saved

verse 1 – Behold – speaks of getting someones attention

-at that time – when the Lord returns

-restore the fortunes of Israel – the Lord will restore everything the enemies of Israel have taken from them over the years

          ***The Jewish people will return to Israel – Is 11:11-12 & Ez 20:33-34

          ***The Jewish people will be saved –

Relationship – is being saved

-Fellowship – is spiritual growth and discipleship

-being out of fellowship or in fellowship has consequences – Psalm 66:16-20
