Sermon Notes 2/2 – The Last Days
2 Timothy 3:1
2 Peter 3:10
-The Day of the Lord is coming – it will happen for certain
-works – these are great works of humanity such as buildings
v11 – a motivation to believers to be ready for the return of Jesus
-don’t lose sight of the return of the Lord
v11 – restoration of the universe is going to happen – to restore back to its original condition – a perfect condition
***What kind of people should we be?
-live a righteous, holy and godly life
v12 – Looking For – means to expect and anticipate and wait for
-Look for the return of Jesus and the rapture of the church
Hebrews 12:1-3 – Look to Jesus to be able to run the race
entangle – means to be encircled
Looking – means to fix your eyes completely on something or someone
***Do not look at church people – 2 Timothy 2:15 – pay attention to yourself and then to the unbeliever – John 4:34-36
Look to Jesus for endurance – Hebrews 12:3
endure – means determination which steadily moves forward
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith
-Jesus gives us a measure of faith at salvation
-Jesus builds our faith to enable us to walk in victory through everything
verse 12 – Hastening – be busy in the harvest. It makes time go faster
verse 13 – Promise John 14:1-3 – the Lord promises that He will return
***What should we be doing since we know it is the last days? PRAYING
SPIRITUAL SHIFTS
1. A shift from doing our will to doing His will – Matthew 16:24
2. A shift from convenience to inconvenience
3. A shift from us to others – Philippians 2:3-4
2 Prayer Points
1. WE MUST REALIZE THE LORD LIMITS HIMSELF TO THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH – PSALM 115:3 & 135:6
-The Lord can do anything because He is Sovereign
-He limits Himself to the church when it comes to prayer. When the church prays, the Lord moves. When the church does not pray, the Lord does not move.
2. WE HAVE A PATTERN AND MODEL TO FOLLOW FOR THE CHURCH WHEN IT COMES TO PRAYER – Acts 1:9-14 (v14)
a. the early church prayed in unity – Prov 6:16-19
b. the early church prayed continually
c. the early church prayed in tongues – Acts 2:1-4
