Sermon Notes 6/16 – The Holy Spirit

                            First Corinthians 12 and 14

verse 7 – manifestation

      (1.) The word Manifestation means to benefit people

-the spirituals are present to help people.  They are for others….

     (2.) The word manifestation speaks of going public

-they are to be used mainly outside of the church in the marketplace

vs8-10 – these verses list the 9 spirituals

verse 11 ——- 4 Points About The Holy Spirit

     1. There is only one Holy Spirit – Eph 4:4-6

     2. He is the same Holy Spirit – Heb 13:8 & Mal 3:6

     3.The Holy Spirit is always moving – v11

-works – is energy, activity and being alive

-The Holy Spirit uses believers to do His work

      4. The Holy Spirit distributes the 9 spirituals – v11

-no believer possesses any of the 9 spirituals

-the Holy Spirit determines who He uses

1 Corinthians 12:10 – tongues and interpretation of tongues refers to the 9 spirituals and not the evidence of speaking in tongues that comes when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:28-31 –

v25 – no division is allowed in any church and in the body of Christ — NO

-1 Cor 1:10 & 3:1-4 – division is of the flesh and the enemy and must be dealt with

verse 28 – God places all gifts in the body of Christ

Helps – a person who will do anything

Administrations – one who pilots the ship

vs29-30 – keep all Bible scriptures in context

-the answer to all of the questions is NO

-tongues here is referring to being one of the 9 spirituals

verses 12-13 – the church is compared to a human body – it has many members and is one

                      – the body of Christ is one and has many members – Jesus is the Head – Colossians 1:15-18

verse 13 – There is only true and living Holy Spirit who is God

-1 Corinthians 11:3-4, 13-15

-we were all baptized into one body @ salvation

               3 Baptisms

       1. water baptism – water – any believer

       2. Baptism in the Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit – Jesus Christ – Matt 3:11

       3. Baptism into the body of Christ – the church – 1 Cor 12:13 – Holy Spirit

verse 31 – are you just coveting what you think are the best gifts – but you need to pursue the more excellent way – PURSUE LOVE…….

                                    FIRST CORINTHIANS 14

verse 1 – Pursue Love – to follow after…Press forward…run after…persist until possessed

-it is a hunting term and a priority

-Pursue love because God is love – 1 John 4:7-8 – Pursue the Gift Giver and not the gifts

Desire Eagerly the Spiritual Gifts

Desire – means to have a warm feeling for/to long for/to crave

Earnestly – means intentionally/seriously/with zeal/intensely

Prophecy – means to speak an inspired message

——-Prophecy is easier to accept because it is in our native language
