THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US
Acts 14:19-28 – the Holy Spirit allows Paul to move forward
Acts 16:5-12 – the Holy Spirit stops Paul
(1.) THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US THROUGH VISIONS – Acts 16:6-10 (v9)
(2.) THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US THROUGH CONVICTION – John 16:7-11
a. Definition of conviction – it is convincing someone they have sinned and to convince them not to go the wrong way
b. Conviction is a work of the Holy Spirit – He is the only convicter
-you can pray to the Holy Spirit when your prayers are connected to His works
c. The Holy Spirit convicts everyone of sin
Unbelievers – John 1:29 – the Holy Spirit convinces unbelievers they are going in the wrong direction and have sinned
Believers – 1 John 1:9 – the Holy Spirit convinces believers they are going in the wrong direction and have sinned
***The Tone Of Voice And Conviction…
The voice of the Holy Spirit is kind, gentle and firm and points you to Jesus. The voice of the enemy is negative and pulls you away from the Lord…
Condemnation
—generates shame, confusion, fear and rejection
Conviction
—generates hope, restores us to God and keeps the blessings of Jesus flowing
4 Points To Remember About Conviction
1. Conviction is proof we are saved
2. Conviction & confession does not eliminate the consequences of our sin
3. Ccnviction can be accepted or rejected – Psalm 51
4. The Holy Spirit can use people to convict us – Eph 4:11-12 & Exodus 18:1, 5-11, 13-27………….Proverbs 27:6 & 17

-the Holy Spirit breathed on people to write the Word of God
-as e read the Bible, the Holy Spirit points out what we are to do and not do
