Baptism – Power
Acts 1:8
-this is the baptism of the Holy Spirit
-controversy comes from the enemy concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit
(1.) the baptism of the holy spirit is Biblical – Acts 2:1-4
-the baptism of the Holy Spirit is found throughout the Bible
-it is not just an emotional human experience
(2.) THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR EVERYONE – Acts 2:38-39
-the Lord desires every person to be saved and baptized in the Holy Spirit
-the Lord invites people to receive spiritual gifts from Him
2 STATEMENTS
***IF THE LORD WANTS ME TO HAVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THEN HE WILL GIVE IT TO ME – James 1:17
-open your heart to receive everything the Lord has for me
***THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ONLY FOR A SELECT FEW – ACTS 10:34
-The Lord is not a respecter of persons
(3.) THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR TODAY – Hebrews 13:8 & Malachi 3:6
-some people believe the power of God was just for the early church
a. so we do not need God;s power today?
b. the Bible never says the gifts of the Spirit stopped – 1 Cor 13:8-12
(4.) THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FROM THE LORD – Luke 24:49 & Matthew 3:11
-Jesus Himself baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit
-we can see disorderly things happen, but the baptism of the Holy Spirit is still right
WE CAN RESIST THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. ) WE CAN RESIST THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE – 1 Corinthians 12:1
Ignorant – means to have a lack of information, education & knowledge
-defeat ignorance through 2 Timothy 2:15
