JEHOVAH ROHI
The Lord Is My Shepherd
verse 1
Lord – is Jehovah
-the most used name of God in the BIble – around 6,800 times
The name Jehovah speaks of 3 things:
1. Jehovah is the Eternal One
-He has always been and existed – Psalm 90:2
-therefore He is God of the past, present and future
PAST
-remember everything Jehovah has done for you…It will build your faith
PRESENT
-He is a NOW God…and can do anything NOW
FUTURE
-Jeremiah 29:11
-every believer has a bright future ahead of them
2. Jehovah is the covenant keeping God
-He gives and keeps His Word
3. Jehovah is a personal Shepherd and God
-He is JEHOVAH ROHI – a close companion and best friend…He cares for us
-We have a personal relationship with HIm
-The Lord IS MY Shepherd – present tense
JESUS IS REFERRED TO AS SHEPHERD 3 TIMES IN THE NT
1. JESUS IS CALLED THE GOOD SHEPHERD – John 10:7,14
-Psalm 34:8
-It refers to Jesus being God – I AM
-it refers to the Lord being irresistable
2. JESUS IS CALLED THE GREAT SHEPHERD – Hebrews 13:20-21
-it reveals there is only one shepherd and one way to heaven and the great things He has done
-match what Jesus did
*He died on a cross
*He forgives sins
*He rose from the grave
3. JESUS IS CALLED THE CHIEF SHEPHERD – 1 Peter 5:4
-this is speaking of the return of Jesus Christ
-Matthew 24:7 and Revelation 6:6-7
***If there is a Shepherd, there must be sheep….
3 Kinds Of Sheep
1. Fence Sheep
-always on the outside of the flock and along the fence
-they rub against the barbwire and eventually die from the cuts of the wire
2. Maverick Sheep
-do not submit to authority and want to do their own thing
3. Domestic Sheep
Hebrews 13:17
-the are committed…stay…get involved…are a joy to their pastor
verse 1 – I SHALL NOT WANT
This speaks of 2 things:
1. THE LORD TAKES AWAY OUR WANT –
-the desire for things, stuff and the world diminishes
-when you have Jesus you have everything
-our wants reveal our level of maturity

-the only thing you take with you when you die is YOU…
