1 Peter – “The Word Of God”
(1) THE BIBLE SPEAKS ABOUT LOVE – v22
-we need to love one another
purified your souls – this speaks of salvation and being clean – John 15:3
*Clean Positionally – when anyone is saved, they are clean
*Clean Practically – the Lord keeps us clean through His blood
***THE RESULT OF BEING SAVED AND READING THE BIBLE IS THAT WE WILL LOVE PEOPLE FERVENTLY
fervently – means to love people deeply and with full energy
-it is the picture of a horse at full gallop & a runner stretching toward the finish line
-BODY…SOUL…Spirit – every believer is 3 in one
a.) Before we are saved, we operate on soul and body level love
b.) Once we are saved we receive the agape love of Jesus – unconditional love
c.) this love grows as we spend time with Jesus
vs23-25 – THE WORD OF GOD/BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD
(1) The Bible was written by God Himself – 2 Peter 1:20-21
-it is God speaking to humanity
(2) The Bible Is described by two words
a. Logos – this is the written Word – v23
b. Rhema – this is God’s Word coming alive and changing people – used in v25 twice
(3) The Bible is incorruptible – v23
-The Bible does not change
-The Bible is not subject to decay, destruction or death and will last forever
-The Bible does not change and is for all generations and all people
(4) The Bible is Truth – v22
-The Bible is not positive or negative…IT IS TRUTH…
WHY READY, MEMORIZE, STUDY AND PRACTICE THE BIBLE?
1. So we can have a Bible Worldview
2. So we can defend the Gospel and Bible
-against all gospel enemies
3. So we can find Hope
-the Bible gives us hope for now and for eternity
