1 Peter 2: 6-10 *IDENTITY*

vs 6-7 – Believe – this speaks of those who are born again Christians

-Jesus is honored and valued highly and precious to believers

v7 – Unbeliever – those who are not saved

-Jesus is rejected and they walk in disobedience – vs7-8

     Peter now talks about our Identity

-Our identity is in Jesus Christ alone

           *it is not in a job, in talent or political party

-Immediately at salvation, we receive every spiritual blessing in Christ because we are IN HIM…

         a. these spiritual blessings are free and gifts from the Lord

         b. this has nothing to do with performance, feelings, sins, behavior or serving the Lord

         c. Our position in Christ never changes – we possess it

         d. do not doubt what the Lord has given you – DECLARE WHO U R IN CHRIST

v9 – BUT YOU – this is born again believers

called – means to say our name and invite us to be saved

darkness – speaks of sin and the unsaved condition

light – is the condition of being saved & changed

—Colossians 1:13

(1) YOU ARE A CHOSEN GENERATION –

-this is God choosing everyone to be saved and letting them know that they are all special in Him

-this is emphasizing the Lord concerning salvation

(2) YOU ARE A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD – v9

-this speaks of being connected together to form a special group of people

-we are all brothers and sisters in Christ

-we should treat one another as the bride of Christ

(3) YOU ARE A HOLY NATION – v9

A holy nation is a group of people held together by the same values which makes them different, set aside or separated out…….

-this refers to the Word of God and its values

-Matthew 21:42-44 – The Word came to Israel, but the Jewish leaders and religious people rejected it.  Therefore, the Word went to the gentiles and there would be fruit..  There is fruit from believing the Bible…….

(4) WE ARE GODS’ OWN POSSESSION:

-This speaks of two things:

1. we are possessed by the Lord only

2. it speaks of God possessing us – surrender

Once we are saved and know who we are in Christ, we have a responsibility:

Proclaim – means to tell out…make widely known…to advertise

Praises – let everyone know about the attributes of the Lord

-tell people your testimony
