verse 11 – Beloved – those who the Lord loves dearly

I beg – means to urge, exhort and appeal
REMEMBER who you are in Christ – pilgrims, strangers, aliens, sojourners
-these are people who come from another country and settle down in a new country for a period of time
-when you are from another country people notice
        WHY WILL PEOPLE NOTICE THAT WE ARE DIFFERENT?
1. We abstain from fleshly lusts – v11
abstain – means to hold off/push things to the side
-do not be involved in fleshly activities
How?
a. stay filled up in the Spirit – Eph 5:18
b. watch who you hang out with
c. watch where you go
d. watch what you hear, listen to and look @
e. watch what you wear
v12 – walking in the Spirit produces great conduct
***GREAT CONDUCT + GREAT CONVERSATION = GREAT CONVERSIONS
***Do not get involved in Christian Wars…….
1. Just live for Jesus and don’t worry about witnessing too much
2. Witness for Jesus always and don’t worry about discipleship too much
***People will glorify the Lord on their day of visitation – the day people get saved…
vs13-16 – Our conduct includes Submitting to authority
submit – means to yield or surrender to the authority of another
Means to arrange in order under an authority
***It is a military term
1. WE ARE TO SUBMIT TO GOD AND HUMAN BEINGS
-Do what the Lord wants you to do and what authorities want you to do
2. Submit to all authorities as long as it lines up with God’s will and Word
Daniel 3:1,4-7,12-18 and Acts 5:17-21a, 25-32 (v29)
***Peter refers to the government here
a. submit to every ordinance of man – speed limit/taxes/laws
-as long as it lines up to the Word of God
b. Submit, not to the person personally, but to God’s authority in that position
-whether they are a good or a bad authority
3. IT IS THE WILL OF GOD TO SUBMIT – verse 15
will – means the plan, purpose, desire, wishes and destiny of the Lord
-doing what the Lord wants…Doing what is right…
-always do what is right/repent when you don’t/stay in the will of God
