Zechariah 5

The Vision of the Flying Scroll

– Zechariah received 8 Visions from the Lord

– This is vision #6
v1 – Zechariah turns in another direction, looks up and sees vision #6…….

– The Lord can speak to people with visions – Acts 2:1-17

– Flying – means a continuous action of floating like a banner for all to see

v2 – He – refers to an angel

– The scroll is 30′ long and 15′ wide

– It was very large and a rectangle in shape – the size reveals the importance of the scroll
v3 – There is something written on both sides of the scroll – “this side and that side”
THE SCROLL REPRESENTS THE WORD OF GOD

(1) THE FLYING SCROLL WAS THE SAME SIZE AS THE PORCH OF SOLOMON’S TEMPLE

– This porch is where the Word of God was read and taught to the people

– Unbelievers could also mingle here – John 2:13-22
The scroll shows us some things about the Word of God:

(1) The Word Came From God – the scroll came from God to Zechariah
-2 Peter 1:21
(2) We need both sides of the Word of God – we need all of the Word of God

Concern in todays church culture:

– Only preaching certain topics
– Saying certain principles are not for today
– Pushing some subjects to the side
– Cutting back of the Word of God
(2) THE FLYING SCROLL WAS THE SAME SIZE AS THE HOLY PLACE IN THE TABERNACLE

– The Table of Showbread was a piece of furniture in the Holy Place

– The Table of Showbread represents communion and fellowship with the Lord and represents the Word of God

– We have fellowship and communion with the Lord through the Word of God
A. The bread was for the priests – Lev 24:9
– It had to be taken and picked up…..It was fresh daily…

B. There are 3 groups of people who cannot have fellowship with God

1. Strangers – Lev 22:10 – this is an unbeliever

2. Hired servants – Lev 22:10 – this is a person working to gain salvation/works

3. A believer walking in sin – Lev 22:4 – this person cannot enjoy the privileges of the priesthood

v3 – The Word of God deals with issues in our lives

vs3-4 – curse – the word curse means to swear or make an oath. It signifies that this will happen…

–  The Word of God is always on the move and dealing with issues in peoples’ lives

*The Lord is dealing with people all over the earth………

2 Areas The Word of God Will Deal With

(1) vs3-4 – STEALING
– This is also the 8th commandment – Exodus 20:15 – Do Not Steal

a. This commandment is for everyone

b. If we steal we identify ourselves with the enemy – John 8:44

c. Do not steal – WORK – Eph 4:28

d. The Lord forgives everyone who has stolen anything – Eph 4:32

(2) Zech 5:4 – PERJURY
– This means a violation of an oath or promise

PERJURY is:
– Lieing
– Misleading information
– Incomplete information

The Lord deals with this issue. If the believer won’t give in, there is discipline for them.
If the unbeliever won’t give in, there is judgment – the house made with stone and wood will not be able to stand……………….
