Zechariah 2

Vision # 3
The man With The Measuring Line
Zechariah talks about 3 things about Israel:

1. vs1-5 – Israel’s Future

Israel was in a big mess, but Jesus dug them out and promised them a great future – Zech 3:4
-This represents the church having a bright future – Jeremiah 29:11
2. vs6-9 – Israel’s Call

-Zechariah is calling Israel – the people of God – out of the world system (Babylon)

Dwell – to rub shoulders with/getting close to
– Do not go back to the world that you have been delivered from
Israel’s call is 2fold:

1. A CALL FOR EVERYONE TO BE SAVED – Acts 2:21

Call – means to call outloud/invite/a personal call
– This call is for those who are Jewish and gentile
2. A CALL FOR EVERY BELIEVER TO REMAIN CLOSE TO THE LORD – 2 Cor 6:14-18
– The word has a strong pull – 1 John 4:12-14 – wicked one – to pull down to his level

– The church is not to be unequally yoked – this speaks of having communion with the unbeliever

3. vs10-13 – Israel’s Position

v10 – Sing and rejoice – to shout outloud and be very glad

Behold – to get someones attention
v10 – the Lord is coming back – this is the second coming of Jesus Christ

Dwell – to live in and reside
– Jesus will live in and rule from Jerusalem – the millennial reign of Jesus Christ

v11 – Many nations will be saved and join the Lord

v12 – The Lord will rule Himself over the people and the universe and world – take possession

Choose Jerusalem – Jerusalem will be the capital of the world

v13 – Aroused – the Lord is awake, alert and alive
Holy habitation – this is heaven and Jesus is coming back

Be silent – be still and know that I am going back

Zechariah 3:1-5
The Fourth Vision
The Vision of the High Priest

(1) vs1-3 – A picture of Israel as defiled and condemned
(2) vs4-5 – Israel’s Pardon

v1 – There are 5 characters mentioned in v1

1. The – this is an angel – means messenger

2. Joshua – represents the nation of Israel and the people of God

3. Angel of the Lord – this refers to Jesus Christ. He is not an angel, but a voice and messenger to the world. he is God.

4. satan – this is the devil. His name means an opponent

5. Me – this is Zehcraiah

v3 Joshua – is the High Priest of Israel and again represents Israel & the people of God

2 Things about Joshua in this verse:

1. Joshua is filthy – it means to be covered with dung & manure
– Israel has sinned and is away from the Lord

– We have all sinned and when we sin it stinks – Rom 3 :23
2. Joshua is silent – Joshua is just standing there in silence before the Lord
Roma 2:1 – we are all without excuse…we have all sinned…….

***When any Christian sins, the enemy is right there to accuse and condemn them – Rev 12:7-12
Zech 3:1 – satan is against us/condemns us/opposes us/accuses us

The enemy is a liar. One lie is: SOME SINS ARE BEYOND FORGIVENESS……

a. Because of the magnitude of the sin
b. Because of the repetitiveness of the sin
Believers can overcome the enemy’s’ accusations in 2 ways — Rev 12:10-11 (v11)

1. By the blood of the Lamb – the enemy has been defeated at the cross and through the blood of Jesus

2. By the Word of our testimonies
– This is by what we speak

Verse 2

“The Lord said to Satan” – this is Jesus christ and shows His power and authority over satan
Rebuke – means to address with authority
Jesus she done several things:

1. He has chosen Jerusalem
chosen -means to select

2. The Lord rebukes the devil
– It is only the power and authority of Jesus Christ that defeats and pushes away the enemy

3. The Lord rescues people from hell –

brand – means a burning stick
– This speaks of unbelievers on their way to hell – they are burning

plucked – means to grab
– Jesus grabs us and pulls us out of the fire
vs 4-5 – Relationship and Fellowship

Israel has sinned, but is still in relationship with the Lord

The Lord speaks and says 3 things:

v4 – I FORGIVE YOU – I have removed your sin

v4 – I GIVE YOU MY RIGHTEOUSNESS
– I will clothe you with rich robes
– we need His righteousness

v5 – I WILL TOTALLY CLEAN YOU UP
– This reveals a total cleansing for Israel from the top of the head to the tip of the toes

The turban – was made up of fine white linen wound around the head with a gold plate on it with the words: Holiness to the Lord…..
