Titus – Part II

TITUS

v1 – Paul – means little and is the author of Titus

-Paul is an apostle and a bondservant

-bondservant is doulos meaning to be a servant/an attendant/a slave

******includes being one for life

Romans 1:1 – Paul; is a bondservant

Phil 1:1 – Timothy is a bondservant

James 1:1 – James is a bondservant

2 Peter 1:1 – Peter is a bondservant

Qualities of a Bondservant

(1) A DOULOS HAS A WILLING SPIRIT

-Titus did anything for Paul

-as Christ followers, we must be willing to do anything for Jesus

(2)  A DOULOS IS TOTALLY SUBMISSIVE TO AUTHORITY

-we have to submit ourselves to God

-then we must submit ourselves to people here on planet earth

Why should I submit to authorities?

(1) ***Romans 13:1 – every believer is asked to submit by the Lord

a. we have a choice to obey or disobey

b. there are a variety of authorities in the home, give & workplace

c. we are to submit to authorities

submission – means to line up under or beneath/to get things in order

***Jesus is our example concerning submission – Phil 2:5-11

we must submit to bosses who are harsh or good – 1 Peter 2:13-20

***do not run from a tough situation – grow and pray through – and learn about yourself

(2) SUBMISSION INCLUDES BOUNDARIES – Acts 4:12

-there are boundaries for all of us in life

-no one can do what they want to do

-we are controlled by boundaries and the Lord Himself….Lord means One who is in control

(3) ONLY SUBMIT TO AUTHORITY WHEN THEY FOLLOW THE WORD OF GOD – ACTS 5:12,14,17-18,25-29

-a believer does not have to submit to any authority when it goes against the Word of God

EX;  Neby and the 3 men in the fiery furnace

(4) A SUBMISSIVE SPIRIT IS DEVELOPED – Matthew 4:19 & Eph 5:18-21

How does the believer develop a submissive spirit?

(1) determine in your mind to be submissive

(2) stay filled up and keep the flesh defeated

(3) obey God’s principle

(4) repent quickly – when you do not submit

(5) hang around submissive people

(6) resist the enemy – the author of rebellion

(7) stay focused on the Lord – work on yourself and never look at others…
