THE PARABLES OF JESUS

THE PARABLES OF JESUS

                                                 Matthew 13
Parables – means to throw down alongside
-Jesus threw down a spiritual truth alongside of an earthly illustration
(1.) THE PARABLES OF THE HIDDEN TREASURE & PEARL OF GREAT PRICE – vs44-45
-both parables pretty much have the same meanings
v44 – HIDDEN TREASURE
-This treasure is Jesus Christ and the riches or treasures of the Kingdom
-a man found a treasure and hid it meaning he placed it in his heart and life so that no one can get it away from him
v45 – PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
-Jesus Christ is the Pearl of Great Price.  Only having Jesus totally satisfies…
-when you get this Pearl, everything becomes worthless
THINGS TO LEARN FROM THE 2 PARABLES:
1. There is nothing negative about Jesus Christ
2. Nothing satisfies but Jesus
3. Our situations & circumstances do not change who Jesus Is
-Jesus never changes
(2.) THE PARABLE OF THE DRAGNET
This is a very large net that takes a team of fishermen to handle
       Points About The Dragnet
             (1) THIS WAS A LARGE NET AND SPEAKS OF EVANGELISM – 2 Peter 3:9
-it is a large net because Jesus wants everyone to be saved
-Jesus is inclusive – people are exclusive
Lost – means unable to find one’s way
***Understand jesus wants everyone to be saved
***Understand the lost can be found
***Understand there is no one too far gone who cannot be saved
-the sin nature is the problem and jesus has the only power to break the power of the sin nature
            (2) THE NET IS THROWN INTO THE WATER  – v47
The sea – represents the nations of the world
-the gospel is for every nation and person
A Dragnet –  a team of 16 fishermen have to handle this dragnet
                      a. Believers are to throw the net
-believers cannot save anyone – they are responsible to witness
                       b. the fishermen threw the net every day
-this was their ay of life – a lifestyle
-fishermen are just normal people like us
                       c. The net is thrown by everyone & in all directions
-should produce a full net and many people to follow up
             (3) THE NET SWEEPS EVERYTHING INTO IT – 2 Timothy 2:20
-there are all kinds of people in the body of Christ
-the Lord separates the bad from the good – not the believer
-God separates people here on earth and when they die
            (4) THE NET PRODUCES A REWARD – John 4:34-38
-there are rewards in evangelism
-sow and reap
-sowing is helping to get people saved/giving finances to missionaries
-reaping is getting people saved
