“Second Chance”

2nd Chance

8:1 But Jesus went to the mount of olives: The mount of Olives is a significant place for the Lord and Savior Jesus.  He prayed there He delivered the Olivet Discourse there.  The Triumphal entry went straight through there. He was betrayed in the garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. Zechariah 14:4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west making a very large valley. Half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. HE WILL RETURN THERE

8:2  Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him and He sat down and taught them

8:3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst

The stood her in the midst

This woman was meaningless to the Scribes and Pharisees

Exodus 20:14 You shall not commit adultery. Is the 7th of the 10 Commandments

Leviticus 20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife with the wife of his neighbor both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death

The Law of Moses is profound we still live by 90% of  it to this day

8:4 They said to Him, Teacher this woman was caught in adultery in the very act

She was 100% guilty

8:5-6 Now Moses in THE LAW commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?  This they said testing Him that they might have something of which to accuse Him

17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them

Jesus did not come to abolish the law

This is a perfect example of Jesus not abolishing the law but fulfilling it

Galatians 3:24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ that we might be justified by faith

Romans 10:4  For Christ is the end (culmination) of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes

What is legalism?

The Scribes and Pharisees wanted Jesus to break the law by defending the woman or granting her a stay of execution when she was obviously guilty

8:6-9 But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him He raised Himself up and said to them, He who is without sin among you let him throw a stone at her first.  And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it,being convicted by their conscience  went out one by one beginning with the oldest even to the last

He wrote on the ground

He who is without sin let him be the first

The Scribes and Pharisees were Thunderstruck Stunned

8:9 Convicted by their conscience. Conscience is God’s deputy in the soul one word from the Master can activate it in the worst of human beings

(2nd Chance) 8:10-11 And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.  When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her,  Woman, where are those accusers of yours?  Has no one condemned you? She said, No one Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you go and sin no more.

Jesus is the Judge

You will be one on one face to face with Jesus

And Jesus was left alone with the woman standing in the midst

This is the second time the terminology is used (Standing in the midst) this time there is a totally different atmosphere (She was forgiven)

The enemy accuses then comednms Jesus convicts then sets free

8:12 I am the light of the world He who follow Me SHALL NOT walk in darkness but have the light of life

Grace is not a license to sin
