Psalm 34

Psalm 34

Background:  Davis is running from King Saul who wants to kill him because of jealousy. David does to Philistia – land of his enemies.  They capture David and he pretends to be insane so they will let him go.  This is the background of Psalm 34…..
Psalm 34 starts off with some praise principles:
#1 – PRAISE IS A DECISION – “I WILL”
-David made an intentional decision to praise the Lord…
-whatever you are going through, PTL
                  a. praise is not based on emotions, feelings, our circumstances or situation
-there are times we praise the lord because we feel like it, but then there are also some “I WILL” times
Who are we praising?  THE LORD ——- this is Jehovah
Jehovah – is the covenant keeping God – the God who keeps His Word
-David could praise the Lord because he knew the Lord’s Word was good… Even when he did something stupid…
How do we praise the Lord ?  We will bless Him
bless – means to kneel down…worship and be thankful
***Praise is continual and public – vs1-3
-praise is not a church thing.  It is a lifestyle…
-this is simply telling everyone all of the time about the greatness of the Lord – vs1-3
-HIS PRAISE – not our praise or the devil’s praise…
Why worship and Praise the Lord?
(1) BECAUSE THE LORD HEARS AND ANSWERS ALL OF OUR PRAYERS – vs4-5, 9-10….
v4 – sought – means to persist
v6 – poor man cried out – shows humility and our need for Jesus
Prayer points to learn from Psalm 34:
     1. David ran toward the Lord in prayer when there was trouble
-pray during trouble and when everything is great
     2. Unless we pray, the Lord will not move
-James 4:2
v4 – the Lord delivers us from our fears
v10 – the Lord provides
-young lions – you can hear the cries and howls of the lions as they are hungry and search for food.  God’s people will always be provided for…
v5 – answered prayer brings excitement to us and you can see it on the faces of people
     (3) Our lives do not have to be perfect for God to hear and answer our prayers
-David is a huge example of this point
-He committed adultery, murder and made some dumb choices..
-David still ran toward the Lord
(2) THE LORD IS GOOD – v8
-we are not to focus on people, buildings etc etc…
-taste the Lord for He is Good…….
     (1) GOD IS ALWAYS GOOD
-this is His nature and essence and core – God cannot be anything else than good…
-nothing can change the fact that God is good
