Philippians (2016) Confident

Philippians

Phil 1:6

Confident – means to be settled and fully persuaded; to have a full trust; to be absolutely certain; to be completely sure; can be completely relied upon

a. it speaks of believing in ones powers and abilities

b. we get the words “to be open” from the Hebrew word translated confidence

(1) this confidence enters into us at salvation – and it continues on until today…

(2) this confidence is not based on feelings, emotions, circumstances, but based on the Lord

(1) WE CAN BE CONFIDENT IN THE LORD – Phil 1:6 & Prov 3:26

“HE” – this is Jesus Christ

-Paul was confident in the Lord

-our confidence cannot be in anything else

-Jesus Christ is on the throne – Hebrews 4:16

Throne speaks of 2 things:

1. acceptance – the Lord accepts everyone and then deals with everyone.  Acceptance brings about access

2. access – we all have access to the Lord – 24/7/365

***we have access – confidence & boldness – with freedom of speech — to be open

***we do not need to be perfect to come to Jesus – we are righteous James 5:17-18

who began a good work in me – this is a past act of redemption

*** a good work – valuable/beneficial/prosperous

***perform and complete it – the Lord will get the job done

(2) WE CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE THAT THE LORD HEARS AND ANSWERS PRAYERS – 1 John 5:14-15

IF – first we have to pray

-this is conditional – If the believer does something, then the Lord will do something

-Eph 6:18 & 1 Thess 5:17
