Jesus has just performed 2 Miracles – Mark 2:1-12
(1) The greatest miracle of all – Redemption – the paralytic was saved
(2) The paralytic is physically healed
v13 – Jesus moves along the seashore and keeps on teaching people for awhile
v14 – Jesus sees Levi or Matthew – the tax collector
-Jesus sees potential
-Matthew cheated the people out of their money.  Was Jewish and worked for Rome…Became wealthy from the Jewish people
Follow Me – to be on ones side…to be on the same road…to join together
-speaks of starting to follow and continuing to follow as a habit…
-Luke 5:28 – Matthew left everything to follow Jesus
v15 – Levi invites Jesus over for dinner
-Levi invited unbelievers and Jesus loved to be around unbelievers…….
-this shows that as soon as anyone is saved, they can start to witness
v16 – the religious people come against Jesus for hanging out with unbelievers…
Remember:  Communion vs Connection
—communion – this is close fellowship between believers
—connection – this is connecting with unbelievers to share with them about Jesus
v17 –  Well – these are born again believers
          Sick – are unbelievers
-Jesus came for the unbeliever and not for the believer
vs18-21 – FASTING
v18 – the disciples of Jesus were not fasting, but were having a good time & some fun
v19 – The Bridegroom is Jesus Christ
         Friends of the Bridegroom are the disciples of Jesus
-Jesus uses the picture of a wedding here and is relating to us that the Christian life is full of joy…
v20 – Jesus speaks of His death.  When he is gone, then they can fast
a. Fasting means to abstain
b. this reveals that fasting is only for when the Lord speaks to the hearts of people to fast
v21 – the time of patching the old garment or piece of clothing is over.  It is time for something new.
The new patch – the teachings of Jesus and Christianity cannot coexist with the law of Moses.  Jesus came to bring in something new…
v22 – New wine poured into a bag (sheepskin) expands because of gases forming and the fermentation process.
       -New wine cannot be poured into old wineskins that are not elastic enough.  They will break and bust open
       -the law of Moses represents the old, rigid rules which do not go along with the New and grace
                                              THE SABBATH
v23 – the disciples were walking through the fields picking some grain and fruit because they were hungry.  This was not work, but they were hungry.  This was on the Sabbath day which is talked about in Exodus 31:12-18…….
v24 –  “SAID” speaks of the Pharisees continuing to fuss with Jesus about the Sabbath
The Pharisees made up their own laws and said the disciples were working by harvesting grain and fruit
Vs25-26 – David and his men ate some old bread from the table of showbread..
The law was not broken. When people are hungry they need to eat no matter what day it is…..
v27 – The Sabbath was made for man – it means it was for the good of man…to benefit people and not to harm them
Man was not made for the Sabbath – Man was not made to be entrapped by the Sabbath’s rules and regulations
***Jesus was not a Sabbath Breaker, but He came down on an attitude that people could not be helped on the Sabbath
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath – it means He allowed good things to be done on the Sabbath…………
                                                   Chapter 3
vs1-6 – Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath
v1 – a divine collision occurs between Jesus and the religious people of His day…
Jesus challenged the man made rules about the Sabbath day…
withered – mans to be dried up
a. no one actually knows how this man got a withered hand
b. v2 – they attacked Jesus so they could find a fault in Hom
c. step forward – he came out of the middle of the crowd..
v4 – Jesus was ready to heal
       the religious was ready to kill
v5 – righteous anger rose up in Jesus about not wanting to help people even on the Sabbath
Restore – to bring back to ones original condition…
