Mark 6

Mark 6

vs 1-6 – Jesus finds an unbelieving people in Nazareth
-Jesus goes to another place because of their unbelief
-we want jesus to remain with us – so let’s believe
vs7-12 – wherever the Lord stays, He has a command for us – v8
-the command is to GO – v7 – Jesus sent them out
-Where – to all nations – the Great Commission – Matthew 28:18-20
v12 – all believers should be out preaching, casting out demons and healing the sick…….
a. government officials heard what was going on
b. vs14-16 – they would not admit who Jesus really was though
vs14-29 – John the Baptist
Why did people want to kill John the Baptist?
(1) BECAUSE JOHN ALWAYS POINTED PEOPLE TO JESUS – Luke 1:16
-John was turning people away from Rome, the religious leaders and govt officials
Luke 1:16 –
turn – means to turn from/to turn around
-from sin and all govt and religious leaders
-the caesars of Rome said they were god……John turned people away from this stream of thinking…
(2) THEY WANTED TO KILL JOHN THE BAPTIST BECAUSE HE WAS A VOICE – Matthew 3:1-3
-they just wanted everyone to be quiet and follow their religious views and ways
-John was a voice and won 40,000 people a month to Jesus Christ
-Jesus sent the disciples out to preach and talk – Mark 6:10-12 (v12 – preached)
-there is a battle in Christianity today – just live for the Lord and that will win people to Jesus.  You do not have to share your faith…
-Be Verbal…These are eternal matters…
a. John told it like it was
-John was verbal and shared many times with Herod about his act of adultery – vs16-18
John had said – means to repeat what is being said many times
-John said it with a gracious tone – the name John means the Lord is Gracious…
b. John had a Word from the Lord
-we have a Word from the Lord.  It is called the Bible
-so we do not have to compromise or be politically correct
-God talks and you never know what He is going to say…….
JOHN WAS A MAN
-John was just like us and dealt with issues in his life.  Two issues include:
1. Rebellion – Matthew 3:13-15
-there was a battle going on in John whether or not to obey Jesus
-there is a spirit of rebellion that has been unleashed in our nation today
2. Doubt – Matthew 11:1-6
-John started to questions his faith and the Lord
-Why is everything going wrong when I am doing everything right???
-no matter what happens to us, do not leave Jesus or turn away from Him…….
JOHN WAS A SEPARATED MAN – Matthew 11:7-11
soft clothing – speaks of wealthy clothes
kings houses – represents a life of pleasure or luxury
-John separated himself from materialism
-John knew the danger of MORE…
-Do not want more…Want God – if He gives you more, then bless others…
-Get rid of the  hamster spirit —– hamster means to hoard and want more
*they take more than they need and hide it
-the spirit of the world attempts to make us discontent and dissatisfied with what we have
-MORE will never satisfy and only Jesus will satisfy…
