Exodis 15:26 – healing – OT
1 John 2:7-9 – these verses say to love…It is a commandment to love…
v8 – the word NEW is used to take love to a new level in Christ in 2 ways:
1. Jesus loved the unbeliever – Jesus was a friend of sinners
2. Jesus always loved
v9 – if anyone says they are a Christian and are filled with hate, they are not saved…
v10-11 – no cause to stumble – this person because of their love for people will not cause anyone to  reject the gospel
v11 – Blind – this means they have a hard heart, are unsaved & you know people by their fruit
(2) LEVELS – 1 John 2:12-14
– John is asking every believer to elevate to a new spiritual level of growth and maturity
     1. going to a new level is being all in as a believer
      2. going to a new level is God being all in
      3. there are 3 levels of growth and maturity in Christianity
1. Little children…2. Young Men…3. Fathers
LEVEL ONE – this is the first level of spiritual growth and maturity
Little Children – vs12, 13b – this means offspring and just speaks of being saved
– How many years a person is saved is not an indication of their level of maturity….
– They know the basics – are saved and forgiven…
Characteristics of children that relate to little children:

2. Take a look at what little children eat
a. They will eat about anything
b. They are selective in what they eat
c. Little children like sugar and candy
3. They want their own way, pout when they don’t get it and cry a lot
Young men realize they will not always get their way

– Growth and maturity realizes Christianity is a process faith
LEVEL TWO – vs13b & 14b – the second level of spiritual growth
Characteristics of Young Men
1. They have overcome the wicked one
– Stated twice in the verses
Overcome – means to conquer; prevail; have the victory over
Wicked one – means vicious; harmful and hurtful – speaks of pulling down
– It speaks of standing on ones neck & using our authority over the enemy
– They are strong in the lord and are prepared for spiritual war and battle and will win
2. Young Men are not ruled by their emotions – v14
– The Word of God abides in them – means to dwell in a home
– They are nor led by emotions and feelings
LEVEL 3 – Fathers – vs13a-14a
– These are older mature believers in the Christian faith
