ELIJAH

ELIJAH

Elijah & the Ministry of Prayer
                                     1 Kings 18:18-40
-the prayer life of a believer comes out of their relationship with Jesus
-we must pray individually and corporately
Elijah wanted to pray – don’t lose the “WANT TO” of Christianity…….
-the contrast of Ahab and Elijah  – choose Elijah and not the world
(1) A PLACE TO PRAY – 1 Kings 18:19, 30-32a
-Elijah always was looking for a place to pray in his travels
-we must find a place to pray – a Secret Place – Psalm 91:1
– Elijah had to rebuild the altar – 1 Kings 18:30-31
*some of the altars had been torn down and false gods were being worshipped
*some of the altars had been abandoned
-altars must be rebuilt in ou homes, churches, marriages, families & personal lives
1 Kings 18:36-39 – we have access to the Lord
*access is for everyone – Eph 3:8-13
-the result is the fire of God will fall
(2) HUMILITY AND PRAYER – 1 Kings 18:42
-Elijah was a strong and mighty man of God, but also a meek and humble man
Meek – means power under control
Humility – means to make yourself low
-Elijah bows before the Lord and puts his head between his legs…
-We need the Lord badly in our lives, families, country and world…
-the great enemy of humility is success & blessings from the Lord
1 Peter 5:16-18
(3) BOLDNESS AND PRAYER – James 5:16-18
*Elijah prayed boldly for God sized Miracles
-do not doubt, but believe
-we can pray boldly because of who we are praying to – the God of miracles…
-Ephesians 3:20
*Bold prayers are normally specific prayers
*Bold prayers can take time to be answered – 1 Kings 18:44-45
-the Lord will give us small breakthroughs to excite us and keep us going until we receive the full answer to our prayers…
