Judges 13:1-16:31

  2. The period of the Judges covers a turbulent period in Israel’s history which ended in civil war
  3. Characterized by the statement 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, every man did what was right in his own eyes
  4. Under Moses’ and Joshua’s leadership their government was called Theocracy = ruled by God
  5. The book of Judges was a transitional period where Israel BY CHOICE transitioned from theocracy to monarchy
  6. Samuel was the last Judge, and Saul was the first king in Israel
  7. 15:20 Samson judged Israel for 20 years

 

  1. The source of his STRENGTH was the Holy Spirit
  2. 14:6 The Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily (Killed a lion with his bare hands)
  3. 15:14 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily Killed 1,000 men
  4. 16:28 Then Samson called to the Lord Pushed the Pillars apart
  5. Call upon the name of Jesus and He will give you strength

 

  1. Broken Vows
  2. He was a Nazirite = to separate or abstain.  The people that took this oath to God did not cut their hair and did not drink any wine and did not touch anything unclean.  These outward signs served as a public testimony of their dedication to God
  3. John the Baptist was a Nazirite
  4. Samson broke every vow drank wine touched unclean things and allowed his hair to be cut

 

  1. Anger management
  2. 14:19 So his ANGER was aroused and he went back up to his father’s house
  3. 14:12-13 Samson bet 30 linen garments and 30 changes of clothing
  4. He lost the bet so he went to Ashkelon and killed 30 men and took their apparel and gave it to the people he lost the bet to
  5. Recognize triggers
  6. Respond in the wisdom of the Lord do not react in the flesh
  7. Keep your anger meter on a 2 to 3 do not allow unforgiveness to build up

 

  1. Disobedience
  2. He had a problem with women
  3. Tried to marry a woman from a wrong spiritual back ground because
  4. 14:3 Get her for me, for she looks good to me
  5. There will be a physical attraction but there must be more
  6. Never ever marry a non Christian
  7. Only marry because God has called you to that person
  8. Although the world puts a high priority on sex it also completely devalues it (if you have an appetite come to the hog trough) (Christianity highly values the sexual relationship between a husband and his wife)
  9. 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled but fornicators and adulterers God will judge
  10. The test of time and prayer will prove some one’s character
  11. He appears to be a fool when Delilah asks him what is the source of his strength and he tells her the secret
  12. He did not think that judgment would come because he had sinned before and God had been gracious
  13. 16:20 and he awoke from his sleep and said, I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.  But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him
