1 John 2

1 John 2

verse 1 – Little Children – means little born ones
– This is a general term for all born again believers
You may not sin – John is saying that the believer does not have to sin
– Have a Bible and Jesus mindset….”IF” we sin and not when we sin…
ADVOCATE – means a supporter who never condemns
                                   one who walks beside us
                                   one who comforts and strengthens
*if we sin, we have someone beside us who supports us…
ADVOCATE is also a legal term – it speaks of a lawyer (Jesus) who pleads our case
– Our lawyer faces the Father
– Our lawyer is Righteous – He has never sinned one time…has never lost a case
– Jesus is the Propitiation of our sins – the satisfaction for our sins – the only One who can forgive us and save us
How can we sin less and less and less and not sin?
(1) KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR WHO AND YOUR DO – ROMANS 5:19
*Our identity in life is only in Jesus Christ
– The DO is our works, deeds and performance
– The WHO is who we are in Christ
– Knowing who we are in Christ helps us to sin less and less and less
(2) SUBMIT YOURSELF TO GOD – James 4:7
– There are many voices in the culture today
– The voice of God tells us who we are in Christ
– We are who the Lord says we are
(3) THNIK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT – James 4:7;Phil 4:8 and 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
– We all have an enemy who is called the tempter
– He tempts us to sin
Temptation – means to solicit one to do evil
Temptation starts in our minds – so we have to think about what we are
Thinking about
– Pause – think about what you are thinking about
– Resist the enemy and pull wrong thoughts down
– Replace those wrong thoughts with God thoughts
– And you will sin less and less and less
